For Zone Conference this week, we were asked to give the training for the missionary standard, 4.3 Stress Management. I felt a little called out, but it has been a great opportunity for me to reflect on what has helped me throughout the mission, and recognize how much I have grown to rely on my Savior!
Missionary work is the best! Sharing about Jesus Christ brings so much joy. But I also like this part from "Adjusting to Missionary Life,"
"At other times, however, you may face unexpected problems or experiences that are more difficult or unpleasant than you anticipated. You might wonder how you can succeed. Resources you once relied on to help you cope may not be available. Instead of feeling motivated to try, you might become anxious, irritable, exhausted, or frustrated. You might have physical symptoms like pain, upset stomach, sleeplessness, or illness. You could have trouble learning or connecting with people. You might feel discouraged or want to quit."
Real. Maybe everyday!
But the Atonement of Jesus Christ is real. It works! He fills our bitter cups with sweet. As I have sought to find strength in Jesus Christ (while trying to learn Japanese, talk to strangers, try to share the gospel, etc) what has helped me the most is to recognize what my motives and priorities are. Am I really being motivated by love? Or am I just trying to work harder and make bargains with the Lord?
(Then) President Uchtdorf's October 2010 message really helped me.
"Strength comes not from frantic activity but from being settled on a firm foundation of truth and light. It comes from placing our attention and efforts on the basics of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It comes from paying attention to the divine things that matter most."
Please give it a read!
I love all of you!
